Win a Donation for Your Local Food Bank
Tomorrow is Turkey Day. It’s one of our favorite holidays. It’s a time where we gather with family and friends, reflect on the past year, watch football and, most importantly, stuff ourselves with great food. From turkey and gravy to sweet potatoes and stuffing, everyone looks forward to their Thanksgiving meal. Now you can turn that love of Thanksgiving dinner into a donation to your local food bank. Let us know what your favorite Thanksgiving dinner item is by commenting on this post. If at least one person from every hotel makes a comment before 5:00pm next Thursday (12/1/16), we will randomly draw one hotel and make a $250 donation to your local food bank. Again, every hotel has to participate by commenting in order for the drawing to take place.

So many to choose from!! Pecan Pie- Corn Casserole-Green Bean Casserole. Happy Thanksgiving!
No contest, the best treat on Thanksgiving is the sweet potatoes.
But not just any sweet potatoes, really my grandmother always used yams, but the magic happened when she would melt the marshmallows all over the top. That toasted gooey deliciousness just can’t be beat! Over the years we have played with the recipe, some add vanilla or brown sugar, and some add bourbon! Whatever you like, but at my house it would not be Thanksgiving without them! It would be fantastic to be selected, we have a local food pantry that feeds over 75 people every Tuesday that I volunteer at, last night they made sure everyone went home with a turkey and all the fixings! They would be very grateful for the donation! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!

Filling, mashed potatoes, and gravy are the real stars on Thanksgiving. Many would probably think of turkey when initially picturing Thanksgiving dinner. Nah. Uh-uh. By far, my three previously mentioned favorites are what make Thanksgiving dinner, Thanksgiving dinner. I have suggested many times in my life that carbohydrates are the most important component when trying to find food that will make you happy. Turkey is just the sibling that gets all the attention. Turkey is a disappointment every year. Gravy. Mashed potatoes. Most importantly, Filling.
To be honest my favorites are the ones that our homemade it doesn’t matter what it is, the ones where your friends and loved ones get together, and you make pies to stuffing back to pies again. When you use handed down recipe’s from generations, and every one pitches in young or old.

I will say its a toss up. I love my family’s traditional southern dressing and homemade mac n cheese. Its amazing on Thanksgiving but even more amazing at brunch the next day because we add the dressing to one side of a waffle iron and the mac to the other and which in turn makes a super-duper crunchy, cheesey waffle that we add a sunny side up egg on top of and plus left over gravy or a hollandaise. FOR REAL- Southern cooking in my belly!!!!
P. S. don’t forget the left over cranberries 🙂
My favorite is the left over turkey to make sandwiches the next day 🙂
Thanksgiving for me growing up was all about the mashed potatoes, my grandmother seriously made THE BEST mashed potatoes E-V-E-R! I spent one Thanksgiving away from my family in South Carolina as I couldn’t make it home for the holiday (this hospitality biz interrupting lives–lol)and had mac and cheese for the first time and that was weird but who can not welcome mac and cheese to the table any day of the week–plus my mother-in-law brings it these days. My husband and I have been hosting Thanksgiving for the last 7 years and my has the menu changed but my current favorite items (that’s right I do not have 1 favorite–it is a meal of many choices)at the table are the turkey, roasted root veggies and baked corn.
