Helping After the Storm
Many of us huddled around the television to watch the Weather Channel as Hurricane Matthew made its way up the East Coast of Florida toward the Jacksonville area. When it was all over, we heard the stories from all of Shaner’s properties affected and how they all pulled through relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said about the surrounding communities. Many areas were damaged by wind and flooding displacing many residents.
In St. Augustine, the Solomon Calhoun Community Center was turned into a shelter for those turned homeless by Hurricane Matthew. The staff at the Courtyard St Augustine stepped up to help the more than 60 families living at the shelter. The staff put together some amenity bags including toiletries and snacks and delivered them to the shelter. This is yet another example of Shaner associates reaching out to better their community and help people in times of need.
