Developing Future Leaders
Geoffrey Field and Barbara Eslick recently led two sessions about sales, marketing and revenue management at Penn State University. At the invitation of Donna Quadri-Felitti, Director of the Penn State School of Hospitality Management, Shaner Hotels agreed to teach Hospitality Management 380 for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters at the University Park campus The class is an overview of all aspects of operating a hotel property. Subjects include franchising, ownership, sales & marketing, front office, F&B and catering, engineering and legal/risk management.
Each week Shaner’s own subject matter experts use their real-life, on-the-job experiences to help teach the class based on the topic. In addition to Geoffrey and Barbara, Patrick Landy, Mimi Driscoll, Morris Siyman, Ben Jellison, Matthew Pagano, Jeff Pugh, Mary Anslinger and Ryan Hurtack have participated. The class also includes four field trips to Shaner locations in the State College area.
Plato Ghinos and Brian McMahon serve as the Associate Professors for the course and are responsible for organizing and managing the class, conducting exams and serving as mentors to the students. There are 42 students in the class who are all hospitality majors. All compensation being paid is donated to the JB Griffin Foundation.
WHAT A WONDERFUL PROGRAM!!!
That program will absolutely benefit those students. I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management – it helped immensely to have professors who have worked/are still working in the field. Glad to see Shaner mentoring future hospitality managers!
Geoffrey and Barbara you look great Very Exciting.
I absolutely love that Shaner is participating in training our future leaders. It looks like a fun and educational program! This is just another great example of Shaner giving back!
The longer I am with this company, the more grateful I am, as I see the qualities and morals that I desire to withhold are just as important to the Shaner Company.
A purposeful dedication to community, to our future, for doing the right thing not because you have to but because it is the right thing to do. It makes your employees very proud! Great job!
What an absolute pleasure it has been to work with this class. It is an honor to know that we are helping to develop the future leaders of our great industry!
I think this is so great and makes me love working for Shaner even more 🙂
